The Vineyards

PriamPriam
Priam Vineyards was founded in 1998 in the historic town of Colchester, CT by Gloria Priam and her husband Gary Crump. The vineyard was named for Gloria's grandfather, Andrew, who had vineyards in Hungary in the early 1900's. They started with the intent of being growers, but quickly escalated to a winery as they realized the quality of product being produced from their land. In 2002, Priam Vineyards became a licensed farm winery, and opened to begin marketing their wines in April of 2003. Priam Vineyards is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and select holidays, 11am to 5 pm, March through December, for tastings and self-guided tours of the vineyard.

The Wine:
Priam Vineyards has won numerous International wine competition medals in their first few years as a winery. Of the thirteen wines produced, each has been awarded at least one if not several international medals. These wines are produced in the style of Northern France and Germany. The wines presently offered are: Jeremy River White, Salmon River White, Blackledge White, Cayuga, Barrel Select Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Late Harvest Riesling, St. Croix, Salmon River Red, Salmon River Red PV, Westchester Red and Essence of St. Croix.

The Vineyards:
Priam Vineyards' 40 acre farm has 25 acres of grapes in production, with a breathtaking 35 mile view of the New England countryside.

We benefit from the unique microclimate of the hills of New London County, just 15 miles from Long Island Sound, where we grow classic European varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat and Merlot as well as American hybrids: Seyval, Cayuga and St. Croix. The rich gravelly soil, sloping hillside and constant breeze provide the perfect climate for these varietals.

The winery was built into the hillside at the base of the vineyard, as a New England style barn. It was designed specifically to make use of the earths cool temperature in the wine cellar, as well as the use of gravity to feed juice from the crush pad to the tanks.

Unique Offering:
Our 40 acre farm sits in the Salmon River watershed area, just minutes from Mohegan Sun Casino, Moodus Resort area, The Goodspeed Opera House, and a number of state parks, as well as the Airline Hiking Trail. The seasonally beautiful surroundings of the area offer hiking, fishing, golf, antiquing and vacationing.

The vineyards are beautiful throughout the year for picnicking and touring. Take a picnic to the top of the vineyard and enjoy the 35 mile view. Enjoy local cheeses available in the tasting room, that beautifully compliment Priam Vineyards' wines, as well as local artists displayed in the tasting room gallery.
